Riverview Will Get Funds

The State Bond Commission is expected to approve money to fix the hospital's roof.

The State Bond Commission is expected to approve funding of a major Middletown project when the commission meets Friday. The commission’s agenda calls for $425,000 for alterations, renovations and improvements to Riverview Hospital on River Road.

State Rep. Gail K. Hamm, D-East Hampton, said she welcomes the commission’s approval of the funding and said she appreciates Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s support of the project.

“I want to thank Governor Malloy and the members of the Bond Commission for their continued confidence in Middletown with the approval of this project,” said Rep. Hamm.  “Healthcare is critical for Connecticut as we work on keeping our attractiveness in a competitive world.  Maintaining our infrastructure is key.”

Under the project, Riverview Hospital will receive a replacement of the roof on Building 8 on the facility’s campus. The project is anticipated to create eight construction jobs.

Riverview Hospital, which is run by the state’s Department of Children and Families, is a facility for children and youth and is the only state-administered psychiatric hospital in Connecticut for those under the age of eighteen. It provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with severe mental illness and related behavioral and emotional problems.
