Republican Primary Polls Open Until 8 p.m.

Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum appear on Connecticut's ballot for Middletown voters, even though Santorum has suspended his campaign.

 

Today's a big day for the 3,419 registered Republicans in Middletown, as 14 district voting locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Presidential primary.

Republican Registrar Janice A. Gionfriddo can't remember the last time the city has had just a Republican primary. "It's been a long time. Usually we have both," she said. "I imagine it's going to be a pretty quiet day."

As far as percentage of voter turnout for Tuesday, Gionfriddo said, "if we get 40, that will be a lot." Only registered Republicans can cast a vote.

This year, 17-year-olds can vote in Connecticut's primary as long as they will turn 18 on or before the Nov. 6 general election.

The names of Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum will all appear on the state's ballot, (see sample ballot pdf attached) even though Santorum has suspended his campaign.

The Middletown GOP is urging registered Republicans to turn out to the primaries on its web site and Facebook page.

The Republican Convention in Connecticut will be Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Hartford Convention Center.
