Murphy: Speed, Capacity of Semi-Automatic Weapons 'Unbelievable' [Video]

Sen. Chris Murphy watches a state police demonstration of the power of military-style assault rifles in Simsbury.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) paid a visit to the Conn. State Police Gun Range in Simsbury Friday for a demonstration on military-style assault rifles.

State police Sergeant Shawn Corey demonstrated the differences between two military-style assault rifles for Murphy as he asked questions specifically about two versions of a similar weapon—one that is banned in the state of Conn. and one that is currently legal.

A .223 caliber rifle is not a military style weapon. It's other name is AR-15 which sounds scary to some. But it is a gun that is great for home defense for a man or woman.

William, the M16 rifle, officially designated Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm, M16, is the United States military version of the AR-15 rifle. The AR-15 is a direct descendant from the M-16. However you are correct that all .223 cal rifles are not militaristic in design. The Browning Model 81, Lever Action 223 Caliber Rifle for example. A rifle is an effective weapon for defense but when it comes to in-home defense a handgun would be better suited whereas a rifle in a house can be unwieldy.

Not everyone has a handgun permit so AR-15 is the best gun for defense in a household that almost anyone can use. I for one prefer a 12 gauge pump shotgun. It does the most damage in a small area. Again my issue is with taking away guns that protect people from criminals.

The shotgun apparently is Obama's weapon of choice LOL! And, here is an image of his "assault weapon": http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e87/johnbrush/ObamasAssaultWeapon_zps2657c991.jpg
