Middletown Democrats to Name Nov. Candidates July 18

Most of the Democratic candidates will seek re-election and a number of new individuals are interested in running.

Middletown Democrats will nominate its party's hopefuls who will run in November's municipal elections on July 18 during a convention at council chambers.

Democratic Chairman Dan Pickett says his party will officially endorse candidates for the Nov. 5 municipal elections, many of who will run for re-election.

“With a strong interest of new candidates for office, the Democrats will be well-poised for victory in November,” Pickett says.

“From Mayor Dan Drew to the entire slate of candidates, the Democrats are ready to continue working for the citizens of Middletown.”

While only members of the Middletown Democratic Town Committee are allowed to vote, Pickett says the community is invited to the convention.

The Middletown Democrats will endorse individuals running for mayor, common council seats, city treasurer, the board of education, planning and zoning, and the board of assessment appeals.

Eight Democrats and four Republicans sit on the city's 12-member common council.

Democratic common councilors Todd G. Berch and 15-year member Ron Klattenberg will not seek re-election in November. Theodore Raczka, an eight-year member of the Board of Education and chairman for four of those years, is also not seeking office.

The convention will be held July 18 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall, 245 deKoven Drive, Middletown.

The Middletown Republican Town Committee is expected to announce its full slate of candidates on July 16.
