Meet The Candidate: Fran Geschimsky For Town Council

Candidate cites community involvement.

NAME: Frances Geschimsky

AGE: 74

FAMILY: My husband Don and I raised three children, Donald Jr., Donna and Diane who all went to the Berlin Schools. I now have three grandchildren who are in the Berlin School. Katrina my 8-year-old grandchild lives with me.

EDUCATION: I am a nurse, graduated St Mayr’s Hospital as a diploma RN, went to CCSU and obtained a RN, BSN and went to Harrisburg to become certified a Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse

OCCUPATION: A retired nurse and senior citizen who is a community activist working for the good of the people of Berlin

PAST OFFICES HELD: A member of Republican Town Committee and have always had the desire to be involved in politics, especially this year. My prior work experiences involved me in the budgeting process, the workings of the town and school departments. I worked with the Senior Center with the care of individuals and the programs provided. As a RNWOCN I held various positions including political chair. I also Did an Nurse Internship in Washington (N.I.W.I)

CIVIC AFFILIATIONS: My volunteer work is with my husband, Don who is a Lion and involved in the Club’s Welfare Committee. As such, we are deeply involved in several projects in the community. We cook dinners for the seniors’ ar Percival and Marjorie Moore senior housing. We make hit Thanksgiving dinners for the elderly and homebound and the Santa’s Run Christmas distributing food pack and toys for those in need in

PERSONAL STATEMENT: The cost of living in Berlin is getting too high with no relief in sight. We need to stop spending and taxation we must adhere to the budget and curb leasing. If we do not have the money to buy it – don’t get it. Leasing increase the original cost so that you pay more for the item. We are an inverse housing growth where we have over 5% of our homes vacant. We've gotten some businesses but more than 40 businesses have moved out.  Residential taxes represent 70% of the budget. We cannot continue taxing the people. We need to increase our non-residential base thru business growth. If I am elected as a town council member I will continue my dedication to the people of Berlin. But I cannot do it alone. Give us the majority – Vote the Republican Slate.
