Malloy Tours Middletown Sports Business

The governor made a stop at Empower in the southern part of the city during his "Still Revolutionary" trip in the Connecticut River area.

Empower Leadership Sport & Adventure Center started with just five employees back in 2009, during the height of one of the worst economic recessions in decades.

Three years later, this zip line and adventure business now employees 17 people and has been featured on CNN.

These were just some of the facts given out during a tour of the facility with Gov. Dannel Malloy on Thursday, who paid a visit to the Middletown business to promote his "Still Revolutionary" tourism campaign.

The governor witnessed firsthand Empower's zip line canopy course, in which staff members wizzed back-and-forth at a 25 mph speed on steel cables while donning harness supports.

The company was started by Joe DeRing, who spoke about how the zipline canopy tours often attract groups of poeple coming by for a workout or for a fun challenge.
