Judge Holzberg Leaving Bench for Hartford Law Firm

The longtime resident and 22-year Middletown Superior Court judge will join one of Connecticut's largest law firm in late September as a partner and mediator.

After 22 years on the bench, Judge is stepping down to become a partner and mediator at one of the state's largest law firm of Pullman & Comley in Hartford.

Holzberg, 60, said his last day in court will be Sept. 17. He leaves behind a long career in Middlesex County judicial service, most notably helping to settle dozens of lawsuits stemming from the February 2010 gas explosion and with the some 150 child sexual abuse victims of St. Francis Hospital endocrinologist Dr. George Reardon.

"The most exciting trials of course were concerning Ray Allen's stepfather and especially the case with the car crash on I-91, which had a dispute over who was driving," Holzberg said.

"Overall, it's a very rewarding career. I'm very, very honored to have had the privilege of serving the state of Connecticut."

"Any judicial vacancies will be filled by an appointment by the governor and approved by the Legislature. If and when that happens will be a matter entirely up to the governor. It's largely a function of the budget," Holzberg says.
