In Middletown, July 1 Means Tax Time

Home, car and business tax bills are being mailed out today to residents, who have a 30-day grace period before they're due.

Middletown's new fiscal year begins today, which means it's time to fill up the city's coffers by paying our taxes — residential and commercial.

Middletown Tax Collector Lee Muscatello says home, car and business tax bills are being mailed today. They are due by Aug. 1 and incur a 1 and 1/2% interest or a minimum of $2 per month thereafter.

When the Common Council passed the mayor's budget in May, at $130.2 million, it set the mill rate at 26.1, a reduction of three-tenths of a mill over last year.

The average home assessment value in Middletown is $165,000, according to assistant tax assessor Debbie Gill, which works out to $4,306.50 in taxes, a savings of $49.50 over last year's mill rate, 26.4 mills.

Car taxes under $100 are due in full on July 1. Motor vehicle taxes over $100 are payable in two equal installments on July 1 and Jan. 1.

You can pay taxes in person at the tax collector's office in City Hall, or mail to Middletown Tax Office, PO Box 1300, Middletown, CT 06457.
