Immigrant, NAACP President Honored at Capitol

Rosa Browne of Middletown was among 16 Connecticut immigrants from 14 different countries invited to Hartford to meet Rep. Matt Lesser and Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

 

of Middletown, president of the Middlesex County NAACP, was honored Tuesday at the Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition’s 15th annual Immigrant Day ceremony at the State Capitol in Hartford.

Joining CIRC in honoring Browne, an immigrant from Panama who has made a significant contribution to her city, were State Rep. Matt Lesser (D-Durham, Middlefield and Middletown) and Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

“As the son of an immigrant, I’m honored to stand here with Rosa, who has given back so much to the Middletown community as head of the Middlesex County NAACP and through her involvement in a wide variety of civic organizations,” said Rep. Lesser. “Immigrants have and continue to make America the wonderful country it is.”

Immigrant Day honors immigrants from Connecticut, and celebrates their long lasting contributions to their communities and professions. This year’s ceremony honored 16 immigrants originally from 14 different countries who live in Connecticut.
