Harbor Park Pedestrian Walkway Will Have a New Roof

The $675,000 pedestrian walkway to the Connecticut River from deKoven Drive, city hall and Melilli Plaza in Middletown, should be complete by the end of July.

The green steel-framed pedestrian walkway to Harbor Park that hundreds of festival goers passed through during the city's Fourth of July celebration will soon have a new roof, completing its construction.

A "To the River" sign sits atop the eastern side of the tunnel entrance, facing the Melilli Plaza parking lot.

The now larger entrance has a double staircase, is handicap accessible and soon will be electronically monitored from the police department and city hall, according to Deputy Public Works Director Robert Dobmeier, who says some work remains to finish up the project, including the installation of the roof, some electrical work and small miscellaneous items.

All is slated to be complete by the end of July by contractor J. A. Rosa Construction. Plans drawn up by Middletown architect W. Lee Osbourne show a steel roof.

The walkway connects Middletown City Hall to Harbor Park, the Connecticut River and Mattabesett Canoe Club restaurant.
