Deputy EMS Director 1st Latino Republican Running for Common Council

This former U.S. Navy military police officer is hoping to restore fiscal responsibility, affordable taxes, and business growth in Middletown if he's elected in November.

Angel Fernandez, the Middletown Republican who is running for common council, was featured in a recent profile on CT Latino News.

He is the first Hispanic running for the Common Council as a Republican. He told CT Latino News that coming from a poor background has inspired him to run for public office — after determining that he can relate to many different Middletown populations

Fernandez, 44, a former U.S. Navy military police officer, is the volunteer deputy director of Middletown's Emergency Management Services and owner of Eleven Charlie LLC, a homeland security training program. He has a political Facebook Page and is dedicated to "fight to restore fiscal responsibility, affordable taxes, and business growth in the city," Fernandez says.

Among his accomplishments are:

  • Inducted to the American Police Hall of Fame for being the first Navy law enforcement instructor, where he was the recipient of the J. Edgar Hoover Award for Training Excellence.
  • Three Navy Achievement Awards, a Lifesaving Award, as well as numerous campaign medals during his combat tours in Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan as part of his service for the U.S. Navy.
