DEEP Commish Talks River Conservation in Middletown

Daniel Esty was joined by Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, legislators and environmentalists Tuesday for a canoe trip down the Mattabesset and Connecticut rivers as part of his Commissioner in Your Corner visits.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel Esty hosted his “Commissioner in your Corner” series with an afternoon of exploring resources of the Mattabesset and Connecticut rivers.

Tuesday afternoon, legislators and conservationists launched their canoes and kayaks in Cromwell at the Mattabesset River and continued to the Connecticut rivers to Middletown.

Esty spoke at the Wesleyan University boathouse about important natural resources and environmental issues alongside Susan Whalen, DEEP Deputy Commissioner, Mayor Daniel Drew, state Sen. Paul Doyle, state Rep. Matthew Lesser, Brian Armet, executive director of the Mattabesset District, Jane Brawerman, Executive Director, CT River Coastal Conservation District; and Jacqueline Talbot, Lower River Steward, CT River Watershed Council.
