Building Committee Selects Architect

The firm will oversee the design of the new senior center and municipal building.

The office of Mayor Sebastian Giuliano has released the following statement:

This is to announce that the Eckersley Hall Building Committee has selected the architecture firm, Silver / Petrucelli and Associates, Hamden, CT to design the new Senior Center and Municipal Office Space at the Eckersley Hall building. The firm was selected from seventeen (17) companies that responded to the original Request for Qualifications. Silver/Petrucelli was given the highest ratings and judged the most qualified for this project based on their experience in designing senior centers, adaptive reuse of old buildings, staff qualifications, knowledge of sustainable building techniques and cost effectiveness. The Building Committee was especially impressed with their ability to meet strict budgetary requirements and creativity for other similar projects. Over the past three months, members of the Building Committee have been involved in evaluating proposals, visiting buildings and senior centers designed by many firms and listening to formal presentations by the finalists for the project.  The process followed for this selection was fair, objective and transparent. Silver/Petrucelli was the overwhelming favorite by the Committee members. They are the perfect firm to design the reuse of this historic building to meet the needs of our growing and aging population in Middletown. This morning, Ron Klattenberg, Chair and Phil Pessina Vice Chair of the Building Committee presented the Building Committee recommendation to the City's Professional Services Committee  (Mayor Giuliano; Carl Erlacher, Director, Finance; and, Bill Russo, Director, Public Works) who fully supported the recommendation. The City will now enter into contract negotiations to complete the details and specifications prior to start of the project.
