Westfield Fire Passes $1.35M Budget Unanimously

Middletown's Westfield Fire District voters approved a spending package that is 1.86 percent more than last year's.

Middletown's Westfield Fire District $1.346 million budget passed Tuesday evening 31 to 0, according to longtime Chair Ross Andrew Jr., an increase of 1.86 percent over last year.

The mill rate for fiscal year July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014, is now $1.260 and the vote to approve the Fire District contract to buy a replacement rescue truck at or less than $700,000 and secure funding at no more than $600,000 passed unanimously.

Last year, Middletown's $1.3 million budget passed in an unanimous 33-0 vote, setting the mil rate at 1.179 and the grand list at $1.12 million.

A mill equals $1 for every $1,000 in assessed property value.
