Vinal Tech Lifts 'Lockout' That Was Imposed Earlier Today

The state-run high school issued the "lockout" around noontime following an undisclosed incident.

Vinal Technical High School has lifted a "lockout" order it imposed earlier today after an undisclosed incident occurred around noontime.

The lockout, which limits students' movement around the school, was imposed around 12:15 p.m. and was lifted by about 3:25. By 3:45 p.m., there were still four state police officers at the school and two police cruisers.

Principal Richard Shellman said there was no direct threat that prompted the action, which he said was likely the result of someone being "hypervigilant" in the wake of the Newtown shootings.

"We just wanted to do an investigation and state police were notified," Shellman said, "they did their investigation but at this point, I don't want to say anything more than that."

No additional information is currently available. State education officials did not immediately return a request for comment.
