Two-Story Middletown Home Destroyed in Blaze

It's unclear if there are injuries but police say the occupants were home at the time the fire broke out about 4:40 p.m. in a neighborhood between River Road and Eastern Drive.

Firefighters and police are on the scene of a two-alarm blaze that consumed a two-story woodframe home at 25 Walnut Street in Middletown.

It's unclear if there are injuries but police say the occupants were home at the time the fire broke out about 4:40 p.m. in a neighborhood between River Road and Eastern Drive.

Middletown and South Fire, along with firefighters from four towns, battled the blaze which was quickly knocked down though smoke still billowed from the chimney throughout.

While children played nearby, dozens of residents watched firefighters venting the top floor and garage of the home, throwing object after object like a television and clothing onto the front lawn from one of the top windows.

The room looked to be full of possessions in disarray, which delayed firefighters's entry into that area of the structure.
