Two city teens charged with rape and risk of injury to a minor were among 71 individuals picked up on an outstanding warrant sting conducted by the U.S. States Attorney's office Sept. 30.
Middletown High School track and field star Denzell A. Dempsey, 18, of Maplewood Terrace and Dennis A. Jacobs, 18, of Traverse Square both face first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury charges from an Aug. 17 incident although it's unclear if the two cases are related as the warrants are sealed. Both men were arraigned on Sept. 30 and their cases continued to Oct. 9.
Court documents do say a bag of clothing and sexual assault evidence collection kit were seized from Jacobs.
In March, Dempsey was arrested for interfering with an officer during a harassment incident at Maplewood Terrace, according to the arrest report.
In June, Dempsey took part in the Outdoor Track and Field New England Championships held in New Britain, running the 100- and 400-meter relay races while a senior at Middletown High School. In 2011, he took part in Oddfellows Children’s Circus summer program "The Quest for the Golden Nose."
