Three of Middletown's Finest Awarded for Outstanding Service

Lt. Sean Moriarty, Sgt. Richard Davis and Officer Lee Buller honored

Three Middletown Police officers were recently honored by the city.

On June 16, Lt. Sean Moriarty received the Outstanding Service Award from the Middletown Fire Department. On Oct. 30, 2009, the police were looking for a suicidal/missing person in the the woods near Villa St. The missing person was located in the Coginchaug River in waist-deep water clinging to a branch to prevent the current from carrying him down the river. 

Lt. Leary from the fire department entered the river and brought the missing person to the water’s edge. Lt. Moriarty and firefighter Lespier helped pull the missing person out of the water.

Leary, firefighter Canaveri, Lespier and Moriarty were all given an Outstanding Service Award.

Sgt. Richard Davis recieved the Connecticut’s Finest award presented by the Connecticut District Exchange Club's 17th annual Salute to Connecticut’s Finest. He received the award from the Connecticut Exchange Club on May 26 for his commitment to law enforcement.

Davis is in charge of the Middletown Police Department’s Street Crime Unit and narcotic canine handler of K-9 Rika. Davis is also commander of the Middletown Police Department’s Marine/Dive Team. He oversees the operations of the team which includes boating enforcement, evidence recovery in bodies of water and scuba/dive operations. 

He is the commander of the Crisis/Hostage Negotiator Team. Trained in critical incidents, responsible of incident command and resolving or assisting in high threat situations involving barricaded suspects and hostage situations. He is also a certified child passenger safety seat technician and participant in the Special Olympics fundraisers such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Penguin Plunge and Tip-a-Cop.

Officer Lee Buller was given a Certificate of Appreciation by the Middletown High School VoAg Program. He serviced as a school resource officer this past school year and assisted the VoAg program. He provided his expertise, equipment and time to lead two fishing field trips in the Natural Resources Classes.
