Three Middletowners Busted for Crack, Pot, Risk of Injury

Three Middletown residents are facing a slew of drug charges after a narcotics sting by local undercover police officers, Middletown Press reports.

Police arrested Taquesta Ashby, 30, of 46 Cubeta Road, Kalina Tischofer, 18, of 80 Hillside Avenue, and Rajive Mahabeer, 25, of 8 Randall Court, on Tuesday.

The Middletown Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, detectives from the Middletown Police Department Narcotics Unit and  members of the Patrol Division executived a search and seizure warrant Tuesday.

According to the arraignment report, numerous neighbors complained and asked police to investigate the residence on Cubeta Road. A SWAT team came Tuesday and announced their precense loudly before entering. They found 3.2 grams of cocaine at Ashby's home and 6.4 grams of crack cocaine that were packaged to sell. Ashby’s children, ages 10, 9 and 6, were found living in filth on one bedroom. A six-year-old child was found sleeping on the floor, according to reports. Police also found $640 worth of marijuana.

Ashby, Tischofer and Mahabeer were all charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession with intent to sell within a housing project, possession of drug paraphernalia within a housing project, and three counts of risk of injury to a child.

Ashby was also charged with possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana. She was held on a $150,000 bond and was due in court on June 18.

Tischofer was released on a $10,000 bond and is due in court July 1.

Mahabeer was held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court June 18.

The arraignment report stated that the Department of Children and Families responded at the scene Tuesday and placed the Ashby children with their grandmother.
