Three Injured in Route 9 Crash

47-year-old Berlin man was extricated from his car by Middletown firefighters; all three drivers reportedly in stable condition.

A serious three-car accident on Route 9 in Middletown Friday near Exit 16 sent three men to the hospital with injuries.

Police say just after 8 a.m., a 2010 Acura TL driven by Victor Serna, 25, of Windsor, was traveling north on Route 9 and stopped for traffic. A 2005 Toyota Scion operated by Haseebur Shaikh, 47, of Berlin, was stopped behind the Acura. A 2004 Nissan Sentra, operated by Kern Garcia, 18, of New York, struck the rear of the Toyota, and hit the rear of the Acura, according to the report.

Shaikh was extricated by Middletown firefighters and all three were transported to Hartford Hospital. They are listed in stable condition.
