Special Investigations Unit Handling Wesleyan Voyeurism Case

Middletown Police are not releasing any information on the status of its investigation into allegations that two Wesleyan security officers secretly watched and possibly taped, a female student in her residence.

The department's Special Investigations Unit is investigating the case and will not release any updates on the case, said Lt. Heather Desmond, the department's spokesman.

"To protect the identity of the victim we will not be releasing any further information such as where the incident took place," Desmond said.

Middletown police were contacted on April 8 about the incident, she said. On April 30 the college informed students about it.

In an email to students Wesleyan officials do not say when the incident occurred or where, but say the two security officers' behavior "involved the surreptitious viewing and possibly the video recording of a female student in her residence. The violation of a student’s private life by those charged with protecting our students is an intolerable breach of trust. Wesleyan immediately terminated both officers and is cooperating with Middletown police in an ongoing investigation."

Television station WFSB has reported that the two security officers spied on the woman through a window using a smartphone.
