PD: Pedestrian Hit by Police Motorcycle on Saybrook Road

Middletown Police offer little details on the crash that took place just before 8 p.m. on Thursday along the busy stretch of Route 154.

Mayor Dan Drew, who was at the scene of the accident Thursday evening, told News 8 that he's told both the officer and the man hit were sent to the hospital but were expected to be OK.

Emergency, fire and police personnel responded to the area of 540 Saybrook Road in Middletown just before 8 p.m. Thursday, where a police motorcycle collided with a pedestrian, according to witnesses.

Lifestar was called to the area in front of the Grog Shop liquor store and at least one of the individuals was flown to the hospital, however the extent of injuries of either person is unknown. Witnesses say a man who lives on Windy Hill Road was crossing Saybrook Road, or Route 154, going to the Moose Lodge where he works, when he was hit by the motorcycle.

Middletown Police Lt. Heather Desmond offered this statement: 

"This evening, a Middletown Police officer, operating a police motorcycle on Saybrook Road, collided with a pedestrian. Both the officer and the pedestrian were taken to the hospital. The accident is under investigation and no further information is available at this time."
