Reader: Watching Middletown Officers Compete in K-9 Olympics Was Pleasure
The annual event on the UConn campus is a day-long competition involving K-9 units from local police departments, Connecticut State Police, and Department of Corrections.
To the Editor:
Officer William Maio and his canine Judge, along with the Middletown Police Department, competed in the 22nd annual K-9 Olympics at the University of Connecticut in Mansfield on July 12. I was so very impressed with the way Officer Maio and Judge were going through the mud puddle.
Middletown police officer Mike D’Aresta and his canine Hunter were there as well to compete.

Officers from police departments across Connecticut were there as well as from the Department of Corrections with their equipment and dogs and Connecticut State Police Sgt. Guerra, a traffic officer.
I had the pleasure of meeting a sergeant with the South Windsor Police Department and got to go into the mobile command center that the Connecticut State Police had set up. I also got a water bottle from one of the State Troopers.

Officers from the Newtown Police Department who responded to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last December competed as well.
I want to thank Officer Maio and Judge and Officer D'Aresta and Hunter for allowing me and my mentor Ray to watch the K-9 Olympics.
