Police: Man Arrested After Cursing in Social Security Office

Middletown Police say a 64-year-old city resident told officers he had a right to swear under free speech.

Middletown Police announce the following arrests:

SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — On Dec. 29 at 7 a.m., Michael M. Ruffino, 42, of Cherry Lane, Durham, turned herself in on an outstanding warrant.

BREACH OF PEACE — On Dec. 28 at 10:45 a.m., Alexander M. Mason, 64, of LaBella Circle was at the Social Security office on Main Street. A security guard told police Mason came into the office angry and demanding documents. He was unhappy with the service, raised his voice and started cursing, she said. With the lobby full of customers, she asked him to settle down and he yelled, “get out of my [expletive] personal space,” and pushed her shoulder. EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — On Dec. 28, Jillian Breault, 25, of Ridge Road, Durham, was arrested during a motor vehicle stop. Her license was suspended due to insurance and she had an outstanding warrant.

SECOND-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS — On Dec. 28 at 1:46 p.m., Anthony Perry, 18, of Main Street was being detained by Wesleyan Public Safety on Church Street after allegedly stealing a student’s backpack from the lab classrooms with a laptop inside. He was chased by the student, who told police he didn’t want Perry arrested for stealing it.

DUI, FAILURE TO DRIVE RIGHT — On Dec. 24 at 2:25 a.m., Marlise Wilson, 29, of Ensleigh Lane, Bowie PG, Md., was driving a Toyota Prius on Atkins Street and drove off the road into the woods. Police say she had slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and the car smelled of vomit. She told officers she just had a couple cocktails. She failed the sobriety test, registering blood alcohol levels of .154 and .155.

DUI — On Dec. 24 at 5:57 a.m., Suzanne Robb, 51, of Town Colony Drive was driving a Volkswagen Jetta and caused a car accident at Route 9 and Hartford Avenue. She admitted to drinking a large bottle of wine earlier and failed a sobriety test.

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUGS AND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA NEAR SCHOOL, AND POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO SELL — On Dec. 22 at noon, police stopped a Honda Accord on Grand Street driven by Deandre M. Lawrence, 20, of Blue Meadow Road because neither the driver nor passenger were wearing seatbelts. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the car and found backpacks on the rear and front passenger seats. Inside police found a spaghetti jar with 16.4 grams of marijuana inside and packaging materials. Lawrence admitted it was his, police said.

DUI, OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE — On Dec. 21, Joseph Roget of Union Street was stopped at Church and Broad streets. He failed a sobriety test.
