Police ID Victims of Meriden Murder/Suicide

Meriden Police say they discovered the bodies of Melinda Curtis of Meriden; and James Ahearn of Middletown Tuesday in Curtis' Meriden apartment, dead from gunshot wounds.

The names of the man and woman who were fatally shot Tuesday morning in a suspected murder/suicide in Meriden have been identified as Melinda Curtis, 49, of 44 Eddy Ave., #A4, Meriden; and James M. Ahern, 50, of Middletown, according to .

Police believe the incident was domestic in nature, the report says, and late yesterday afternoon, a handgun was found at the scene.

Curtis' daughter called police to do a well-being check on her mother, whom she hadn't heard from in a while, according to the Meriden Record-Journal. A forced entry into the apartment led to the discovery of the two bodies, the R-J reports.

Fox News is reporting neighbors say the two had formerly lived in the apartment together, but Ahern had since moved out.

It's unclear if there are a record of domestic incidents at the apartment and police are investigating, according to NBC Connecticut.

On July 20, Ahern was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, and while license is suspended in Middletown, according to a report from Middletown Police. His court date was Aug. 1 at 10 a.m.
