Police at Woodrow Wilson Middle School After Undisclosed Incident

Police and school officials are not releasing information at this time about the incident.

UPDATED 10 AM:

School Superintendent Patricia Charles said this morning that someone made a bomb threat against Woodrow Wilson Middle School, prompting a search of the school and students and bringing police to the school early this morning.

Charles said she couldn't comment on who made the threat or what the threat specifically included, but she said that "kids may think these types of things are a joke and they're not."

"The students behaved beautifully this morning," she added. "Their backpacks were searched and we went through a sweep of the building. "Unfortunately, you have to take any threat these days very seriously."

Police, she said, are investigating the source of the threat.

"Kids may think it’s a joke but there are criminal consequences that can come along with it."

She added that officials did not believe the threat was credible enough to cancel classes at the middle school, but did search the building and all students' backpacks before classes started.
A press statement Charles issued today indicates the threat was made over the weekend.

"We have worked closely with the police this weekend to ensure the safety of our students and staff," the prepared statement said. "As the students entered school today their bags were checked as an extra precaution. Students were calm and the entry went smoothly.  We have staff members ready to assist students should they have concerns. "

Police were at the school in the predawn hours this morning. The threat, she said, did not involve any other schools.
