PD: 'Friend' Torched Woman's $85 Nikes Left at Her Place

Middletown Police say an Instagram photo from the suspect of the Air Max sneakers on fire was evidence of the crime.

A misunderstanding between two former friends left one woman with a pair of burnt $85 running shoes and the other arrested for criminal mischief.

On June 18 at 10:01 p.m., a victim told police her "old friend," Nicole Ojeda, 21, of Plaza Drive, burnt her pair of $85 white and black Nike Air Max sneakers and showed police an Instagram picture of them.

The report says the photo was posted at 9:30 p.m. and had orange flames coming from her sneakers while on fire.

The report says Ojeda texted the victim saying she had ignited the shoes. At 11 p.m., police found Ojeda who said the victim told her, via text message, to burn the sneakers after leaving them at her house for two months.

She was charged with third-degree criminal mischief.
