PD: Woman Used Kool-Aid Packet Trick to Steal $170 in Groceries

Middletown Police arrested a Stop & Shop shoplifter who they say rang up a 25-cent drink mix over and over again for every item in her carriage.

A 54-year-old city woman with a record of larcenies used a 25-cent Kool-Aid packet to ring up $170 worth of groceries, according to Middletown Police.

On Feb. 2 at 4:08 p.m., police were called to Stop & Shop on East Main Street on a shoplifter, Sheree King, 54, of South Main Street, who was seen by store security ringing up several items with a Kool-Aid pack under them so they rang up at 25 cents, the report says. Police say she paid $2.50 for $170.11 worth of groceries and King admitted to stealing the items.

King was charged with sixth-degree larceny.

According to the Connecticut Judicial website, King has three convictions ranging from 2005-08 on related larceny charges.
