PD: Woman Driving Missing Car Said Deceased Registered it For Her

Middletown Police say an off-duty police officer saw a 40-year-old Grand Street woman operating a Ford Taurus that a dead person's family had reported as "possibly stolen."

A 40-year-old Grand Street woman was arrested last week after Middletown Police say she was discovered driving a deceased person's missing car.

On Aug. 29 at 7:24 p.m., an officer on his way home after work saw Yuvette Bacote, 40, of Grand Street driving a Ford Taurus on Main Street that had been reported "overdue and possibly stolen," the report indicates.

Police stopped her at Loveland and South Main streets and, the report indicates, her license was suspended on June 14.

The report says the owner passed away and the family wanted it back for the estate and had been “loaned out” to an unknown person.

The insurance and registration was cancelled by the family, the report says, but Bacote insisted the deceased had registered and insured the car for her.

She was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and in violation of license classification, and insurance coverage fails minimum requirements.
