A 21-year-old Chester woman driving on Route 9 without a front tire was so under the influence of marijuana and alcohol that she argued with officers, finally offering her lack of intelligence as defense, according to Middletown Police.
At 10:10 p.m., police were alerted about a Mercury Cougar driving dangerously on Route 9 with a missing front tire. The report says Brittny Demanche, 21, of High Street, Chester, was found driving on Main Street and the officer who stopped her smelled marijuana in the car.
The report says Demanche, once told she was driving without a front tire, responded, "that's impossible," proceeded to argue with the officer, saying, "even if she didn't have a tire, she probably wouldn't know because she stated she wasn't very smart."
When the officer asked her about the scent of pot, she confessed she had driven from West Hartford and smoked along the way, the report says, and had two drinks with dinner at 6 p.m. She failed sobriety tests, police say, and was found with .02 grams of marijuana in her car, a marijuana grinder, glass smoking pipe and a pill with heroin inside.
While taking the sobriety test, the report says, Demanche multiple times pleaded her "bad balance" as an excuse and failed breathalyzer tests. Police say she was extremely uncooperative and told them, "that's OK, I'll just kill myself," when asked to read her charges. She was sent to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation, the report reads.
She was charged with driving under the influence, possession less than 4 ounces marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
