PD: Wesleyan Student Charged With Voyeurism in Shower Stall Incident

Middletown Police say the 19-year-old Higganum man took four photographs of a female student in a co-ed dorm from the shower next to her.

A 19-year-old Wesleyan student is facing voyeurism charges after a female in a co-ed dorm says he shot photographs of her unclothed in the shower, according to Middletown Police.

On Sept. 11 at 9:15 a.m., police were called to Wesleyan University by a female in a co-ed dorm on High Street who said a man in the shower next to her at least twice "observed a hand with a camera phone reach under her stall and possibly take pictures of her," after hearing the shower shut off, the report says.

Robert Cristian Rotaru, 19, of Jackson Road, in the Higganum section of Haddam, told officers he had taken four pictures of the victim from under her shower stall, "two turned out to be his own hand and two were of her legs to about thigh level."

"This was an isolated incident and there is no evidence to support that this has been happening anywhere else on campus. MPD and Wesleyan Public Safety worked together to bring swift closure to this incident with minimal disruption on campus," according to Middletown Lt. Gary Wallace.

The report says Rotaru heard the female say, "excuse me, what are you doing?" and he replied he was sorry and left.

He was arrested on voyeurism/peeping Tom and voyeuristic recording of another person charges. Rotaru was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond with a Sept. 12 court date.

This is wrong, but when a Wes student wanders naked high on scrooms into the home of a Middletown resident Wes students jump to his defense all over the internet what gives with the double standard?

And I thought you had to be smart of go to collage. This sure is one dumb action that could affect his career for the rest of his life. And being a local student, what was he doing in a dorm? Take away his phone.

Quote from the patch: "Back at the home, a 10-year-old female victim said in the report she was in her kitchen looking out the window when a man ran from the woods in the back yard toward the house, opened the outside door and came inside the porch. It's unclear when exactly the man became unclothed. She was scared and crying as he turned the door handle but it was locked, the report says. She then saw him run back toward the woods, the report details." As you can see you are misconstruing the story.
