PD: Man Who Stole $45 Worth of Seafood was Hoping to Impress Date
Police say a supermarket tag switcher was caught trying to ring up snow crab legs and live lobsters as day-old bakery goods in the self checkout lane.
A 38-year-old city man who stole two bags of fresh seafood from a grocery store by switching the tags on day-old bakery goods told police he had hoped to impress his evening's date with the crustaceans.
On June 6 at 4:40 p.m., Abdul Gonzalez, 38, of Hunting Hill Avenue was at Stop & Shop on East Main Street and a loss prevention officer who said he had witnessed him stealing seafood.
The report says Gonzales ordered a bag of lobsters and a bag of snow crab legs from the seafood department then rang up the two bags in the self-checkout lane for $125 as "yesterday's sweet," or day-old bakery items.

The report says the snow crabs were valued at $22.88 and the lobsters at $24.49. Gonzales paid $508 for his entire order and left the story, stealing $44.87 worth of food.
Gonzales told officers he stole the seafood for a date that evening in which he hoped to impress the woman. His friend, Gonzales told officers, instructed him about how to replace an expensive barcode with a cheaper one.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny.
