PD: Man Who Fled Accident Left Bumper and License Plate at the Scene

Middletown Police say a Higganum man hit an emergency call box on campus at Wesleyan, then drove away nervously, but was easily traced home by the license plate he left behind.

 

A 22-year-old Haddam man is facing an evading responsibility charge after his car collided with a emergency phone at Wesleyan University, and he sped away nervously, only to be found at home by police who traced the bumper and license plate he left behind at the scene.

On March 8 at 12:52 a.m., Joshua J. Meehl, 22, of Nedobity Road, Higganum, was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass on Church Street on the campus of Wesleyan University.

The report says he hit an emergency phone and drove away, leaving his front bumper at the scene with the license plate attached. Police traced the car to Meehl's home, where they found his mother who knew nothing of his whereabouts the report says.

Police finally made contact with him on March 13 at midnight, then he confessed to hitting the phone and fled because he was nervous, the report says.

Meehl was charged with evading responsibility.
