PD: Van Operator Verbally Accosts Officers, Revealing Drunkenness

Middletown Police say a 55-year-old city man parked his van in front of officers who stopped another driver for motor vehicle violations, then stumbled toward them.

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

SECOND-DEGREE RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF — On June 17 at 10:55 a.m., police were called to a domestic incident in which Booker T. Edwards, 33, of Rogers Road had talked to the mother of his 14-month-old daughter. The report says she refused to speak with him and he broke a screen door and window and entered, cutting his hand, while a the daughter and a 9-year-old were home. Two days before, the report says, police were called to the same address on a domestic in which charges against Edwards are pending.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, ASSAULT PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL, DUI, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, ATTEMPT TO COMMIT CRIME — On June 17, Sebastiano Rizzo, 55, of Margarite Road was driving a minivan very slowly on High Street right past officers who had stopped another driver for a standard motor vehicle check. The report says Rizzo yelled at officers and parked the van then stumbled toward officers. One officer recognized him as being arrested the night before while acting hostile and violent, the report says. He actively resisted handcuffing and later failed sobriety tests.

THREE COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, THIRD-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF — On June 16 at 2:50 p.m., police were called to Denny’s restaurant on South Main Street for a disturbance in which Sansal Gokcek, 23, of Saybrook Road was involved. He was found with an outstanding warrant.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On June 15 at 3:51 a.m., police were called to Spring and Pearl Street on the report a man had forced entry into the back of a home by smashing a glass door, the report says. The caller, police say, heard a woman and children screaming. Once on scene, officers saw a smashed door and blood on the floor, the report says, and an 11-year-old child came running downstairs saying the man was upstairs, as did a 14-year-old. Police say upstairs was a woman who refused to tell officers what was happening and swore at them and James Hill, 33, of Spring Street, highly intoxicated with blood on his shirt and hands. The report says he and the victim are dating and the daughter locked him out of the house after he and the mother began fighting. Hill was found with an outstanding warrant from New Britain for violation of a protective order.

ATTEMPT TO COMMIT CRIME, SECOND-DEGREE ASSAULT, FIRST-DEGREE RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT, SECOND-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On June 15 at 8:52 p.m., police were called to Main Street and Rapallo Avenue for a “smash and grab” from a car. The victim, the report says, told officers the suspect was riding a yellow mountain bike and carried a steel crowbar. Salvatore Morello, 33, of Home Avenue, who fit the description, was found by officers at Washington and Main holding a crowbar, with a stolen GPS and cell phone, the report says.

OPERATE VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, FAILURE TO DISPLAY PLATES — On June 14 at 8:19 p.m., Christian Verdick, 26, of Blackston Villa, Meriden, was driving a Toyota Camry on Washington Street. Police say he didn’t know his license was suspended and thought it was because he failed to pay a speeding ticket because he didn’t have the money.

OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE AND WHEN LICENSE IS SUSPENDED, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — On June 6 at 10:13 p.m., Eric C. Casiano, 47, of Jordan Street, New Britain, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on Pearl Street with a plate registered to a Honda Accord.
