PD: Man Dies After Jumping from Arrigoni Bridge

Middletown police have not yet identified the man who jumped from the bridge early Saturday morning.

Police said a man has died after jumping from the Arrigoni Bridge early Saturday morning.

Middletown first responders reportedly rescued a man who jumped from the Route 66 bridge, however the person succumbed to his injuries and has since died, said Middletown police spokesman Lt. Heather Desmond. 

Desmond said an autopsy will be performed on the man. Police have yet to identify him.

The Middletown Press reported that responders retrieved the man's body in the Connecticut River following a quick recovery around 1 a.m. He was initially taken to Middlesex Hospital and then rushed to Hartford Hospital, the newspaper reported.

The Arrigoni Bridge, known colloquially as the Portland Bridge, connects Middletown with the town of Portland.
