PD: Man Charged After Assaulting Another Who Questioned Bar's Hours

Middletown Police say a 23-year-old city man physically attacked a victim who had just had hernia surgery after he asked when Gigi's on East Main Street would be open that evening.

Middletown Police report the following arrests:

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY — On July 1, Gino Anthony Cardella, 18, of Autumn Breeze Way, Winter Park, Fla., was involved in a car crash at South Main Street and Pameacha Avenue in which he left the scene, police say. The victim said Cardella bumped his girlfriend's car and sped away. Officers pursued him, the report says, and Cardella later said he was unfamiliar with the brakes on his friend's car.

TWO COUNTS VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — On July 1 at 11:12 a.m., police were called to Schuyler Avenue where a called said a man, Robert C. Brown, 20, of Atkins Street, was staggering down the street and let into a home nearby. The report says the resident of the home, a girlfriend, let him in and he admitted to officers he had drank beer.
VIOLATION OF PROBATION — On July 1 at 8:54 p.m., police were called to Wetmore Place on a loud noise complaint in which a Lincoln parked in front of a house was playing loud music. Keshawn Tyler, 25, of Maple Street was found with an outstanding warrant
THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT, BREACH OF PEACE — On July 1 at 7:47 p.m., police were called to Maple Place for an assault or robbery and dispatch told them the suspects were at Gigi's Bar and Grill on East Main and Flower streets. The area, the report says, is the scene of multiple assaults, some with guns, and narcotics activity. Zachary Thomas, 23, of East Main Street was sitting in the area among other people, police say. The victim had a swollen and bruised face and a cut above his eye and told police he stopped by Gigi's and asked a man with dreadlocks when it was opening and he and another man assaulted him by slapping him and kicking him in the face. In an ambulance, the victim, who said he had just had hernia surgery, identified Thomas as the other man. Police say Thomas has a record of resisting arrest, possession of narcotics and possession of a firearm.
SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — On July 1 at 4:40 p.m., Aaron R. Duval, 25, of McKinley Avenue, Norwich, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.
FAILURE TO APPEAR — On July 1 at 8 p.m., Walter Terry Dismuke, 26, of East Main Street was involved in a robbery (see Gigi's above) and fit the description of a dreadlocked male who assailed a victim earlier that night. He was found with an outstanding warrant.
VIOLATION OF PROBATION — On June 30 at 4:30 a.m., Erin Quiles, 37, of Broad Street, New London, turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.
INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, ASSAULT PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER,  VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER, FOUR COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR, — On June 30 at 1:22 p.m., Tori L. Mayer, 18, of Elizabeth Lane was found at home with six outstanding warrants, one from Cromwell and another from State Police Troop E. When police arrive, the report says, she tried to slam the door in an officers' faces then punched one in the chest while trying to escape.
BREACH OF PEACE, VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — On June 29 at 8:50 a.m., Perdo Melendez, 45, of Spring Street was seen by police on Main Street with an outstanding warrant.
INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATE UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE — On June 29, Jason White, 38, of Bailey Road was driving a Yamaha motorcycle on East Main Street with an expired registration sticker and the plate was held on with zip ties belonging to Honda motorcycle, police say.
RISK OF INJURY TO CHILD — On June 29 at 4:37 p.m., police were called to the Rushford Center on Silver Street for an intoxicated person, Nichole R. Landry, 38, of Cromwell Gardens, Cromwell, with a juvenile. She was found with an outstanding warrant.
SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY — On June 29, Ivy D. Maroney of Wilcox Road was at Rite-Aid Pharmacy on Main Street when security saw her hide several items in a bag and leave without paying, the report says. She admitted to doing so.
INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, USE OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA — On June 28 at 10:21 p.m., Tyrease S. Steele, 20, of Butternut Street was driving a Buick Century on Martin Luther King Junior Way. The report says officers found a marijuana pipe inside.

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUGS NEAR SCHOOL — On June 22 at 9:46 p.m. Joseph E. Santamaria, 19, of Main Street was seen by police as a passenger in a car idling on Ferry Street (see ) with Wayne Green, 47, of Silver Street leaning in the window talking to him. Police say he is a known narcotics dealer. Green was found with crack cocaine, a baggie with cut-up white pills (Risperdal) which Green said he sniffs to get high, the report says. Santamaria was arrested for the above and Green for misrepresenting substance as narcotics and not keeping prescription in an original container.
