PD: Man Catcalling Wesleyan Students Busted for Having Pot Paraphernalia

Middletown Police say a Portland man who commented on the body of female college students gave them false identification.

A 21-year-old Portland man who yelled a rude comment at female Wesleyan University students in view of an officer, pulled over for motor vehicle violations, was found with marijuana paraphernalia after he gave a fake identity.

On May 4, Matthew Cogswell, 21, of Bartlett Street, Portland, was a passenger in a Ford F250 Ford pickup on Church Street and yelled a lascivious comment out the window at a group of female Wesleyan students who were walking, Middletown police say.

The car's license plate was displayed in the front window and rear license plate wasn't lit, police say. Cogswell told the officer he was stopped the day before for emissions and insulted the officer and couldn't provide an insurance card. The report says Cogswell gave a fake identity because he "might have a warrant for an unpaid ticket," and arrested him, while he declared, he had "powerful lawyers" that "have more juice than you!"

Inside the car was a bag of .1 grams marijuana, police say, and a metal grinder and glass pipe. After the officer wrote the passenger a ticket, he swore at him and crumpled it up, throwing it into the pickup truck bed and took off without Cogswell, wishing him well with an expletive, the report says.

He was charged with possession of marijuana and interfering with an officer.
