PD: Man, 88, Scared Bank Employees Twice in a Week

When asked why he entered Liberty Bank in Middletown despite being warned not to return, the Middlefield resident told officers, "because I wanted to."

An 88-year-old Middlefield man walked into a Middletown bank and frightened workers in late October — then repeated the same actions a week later after being warned never to return, according to police.

On Oct. 29 at 11:11 a.m., police were called to Liberty Bank on Main Street about a man, Joseph L. Marcati, 88, of Jackson Hill Road, Middlefield, who was frightening several of the employees, according to the report. He left the bank before officers arrived, then turned up at police headquarters.

The report says a week before, on Oct. 22, police were called to the same bank about Marcati scaring workera and was told not to return to that branch however he was allowed to patronize any other office. When asked why he went to Liberty Bank, the report says, Marcati replied, "because I wanted to."

He was charged with first-degree criminal trespass.
