PD: Grandma Booted Boys Into 4 A.M., 20-Degree Cold After Rowdy Sleepover

Middletown Police say a 71-year-old city woman is charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child after she couldn't take her grandson's friends' noise anymore — and sent them home.

A 71-year-old city woman, fed up with the rowdiness of her grandson's sleepover, sent two boys out into 23-degree weather to find their way home at 4:30 a.m., according to Middletown Police.

On Feb. 3 at 9:12 a.m., police were called to a home on Rising Trail Drive about two boys who had been kicked out of a sleepover at 4:30 a.m., according to the report. Police say the mother of an 11-year-old called to say she awoke at 8:30 a.m. to find her son and his 10-year-old friend unexpectedly home from a sleepover at the home of Barbara Aiello, 71, of Rising Trail Drive.

Police say her questioning revealed they had been "kicked out" of Aiello's home during 23-degree weather. The report said Aiello, who has custody of her 14-year-old grandson, said the three boys and their friends were on the third floor and "she couldn't take it anymore as the boys were extremely loud and told them, 'you have to leave,'" ordering them outside.

The report indicates Aiello did not have the boy's parents' phone numbers and never considered calling or driving the boys home.
