PD: East Hartford Man Drew Loaded Gun on Another Near His 2 Kids

Middletown Police say the argument drew a large crowd of onlookers as a 38-year-old threatened the life of a 33-year-old city resident.

An East Hartford man faces felony charges after brandishing a loaded gun and threatening to shoot a city man while arguing on a Middletown street corner in front of his two children, according to police.

On Sept. 2 at 8:33 p.m., Shawn Gonzales, 33, of Pearl Street was part of a large crowd of people fighting at Grand and Pearl streets, according to the report, where Nestor A. Diaz, 38, of Melton Drive, East Hartford, had a gun that he pointed threateningly at another person.

He was seen putting a loaded firearm in the passenger side of his car next to his fiancé and two children with 11 bullets in the magazine, according to the affidavit. He has a pistol permit and the gun is registered. Police say the two men had a verbal argument and Diaz pulled out the gun, pointed it at Gonzales and threatened his life.

Gonzales was arrested for breach of peace; Diaz for risk of injury to a child, breach of peace, first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, failure to store a loaded firearm properly around a minor, and having more than 10 rounds in a magazine.
