PD: Clothing Store Owner Sold Marijuana Alongside Urban Wear

Heshmia D. Lawrence of East Hartford was reportedly selling pot from his North End of Middletown apparel store.


On April 16 at 5:30 p.m., Middletown Police served a warrant on Heshmia D. Lawrence, 38, of Daniel Street, East Hartford, and his Mercedes ML3, owner of Definitely Urban Clothing at 540 Main Street, after citizens reported heavy narcotics trafficking inside.

Inside, officers found Lawrence and a juvenile.

The report says narcotics officers watched Lawrence go up and down the street selling crack and a search of his possessions revealed 1.5 grams of marijuana and a cell phone that constantly rang and received text messages.

A woman later arrested by police after trying to buy cocaine from  told officers she bought crack from Lawrence but believed he only sold marijuana from the store.

He was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and a non-student possessing drugs near a school.

He is due in court May 20.
