PD: City Man Nabbed For ID Theft, $280 Convenience Store Spree

Middletown Police say a 29-year-old Middletown man stole a woman's ATM cards and made an overnight run to a CVS, three gas stations and McDonalds, racking up nearly $300 in fraudulent charges.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, BREACH OF PEACE, VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — On June 11 at 7:33 p.m., Leilani Callands, 22, of White Street, Springfield, Mass., was involved in a domestic incident on Berlin Street. A man said he and his wife heard Callands and Tiffany Menendez, 23, of Berlin Street screaming at each other outside and hitting one another, according to the report. Menendez starting driving a Honda Civic while Callands was leaning in the window, turned onto Prospect Street with her still hounding on, the report says. Officers found Callands at the home hiding in the bathroom, and she lied to them about her identity, the report says. Both were charged.

FIVE COUNTS SIXTH-DEGREE LARCENY, FIVE COUNTS ILLEGAL USE OF CREDIT CARD, FIVE COUNTS THIRD-DEGREE IDENTITY THEFT, THIRD-DEGREE FORGERY — On June 11 at 8:40 a.m., police were called to Old Mill Road on a wallet theft from a Ford Fusion between 4:30 p.m. the day before and 8 a.m. The report says the victim, while waiting for police, found her purse on the street, but missing her drivers license, $10 and two debit cards. Officers found her accounts had unauthorized charges, and visited CVS on Main Street Extension, where $78.02 was charged for a prepaid AT&T phone and three boxes of cigarettes and obtained video footage of the suspect. The report says the officer recognized the Chrysler 1998 Town and Country belonging to a women they recognized. The report says she and her boyfriend, Jonathan Rivera-Musses, 29, of Main Street, had prior run-ins with police. At Irving Gas Station, a charge of $56.45 was made at 6:18 p.m., the report says, for two wireless prepaid cards. Additional charges, police say, on the cards were for 3:55 a.m. at McDonald's on Washington Street for $21.51, at 5:15 a.m. at a Shell Station in Meriden for $88.15 and at 6:30 a.m., a Stop and Go on South Main Street, Middletown, for $35.21. The report says Rivera admitted to using the stolen cards, but said he didn't steal them and had gotten them from Jon Rivera, who lives with him.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED AND CAUSING UNNECESSARY NOISE — On June 10, Sansal Gokcek, 23, of Saybrook Road was driving on Saybrook Road with a loud exhaust. Police say his license was suspended July 20, 2011.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM,OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED — On June 9 at 5:23 p.m., Michael Prith, 25, of Hollis Lane, Plainville, was driving a Nissan Sentra on Long Lane and Wadsworth Street and rolled through the stop sign.

BREACH OF PEACE — On June 9 at 2:57 p.m., Richard Durbin Jr., 43, of Pleasant Street allegedly punched a male after the victim loudly said in their common hallway that Durbin's apartment smells, the report says.

SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — On June 9 at 7:53 p.m., police received a call from a Liberty Commons worker who said she was being threatened by Teresa M. Obenauer, 53, of Liberty Street. Police found an intoxicated Obenauer sitting on the Buttonwood Tree windowsill, the report says, and she swore at the victim because she was banned from Liberty Commons. The report says Obenauer swore and insulted officers during booking.

FAILURE TO HAVE HEAD LAMPS, FAILURE TO CARRY TINTED GLASS STICKER, WEAPONS IN VEHICLE — On June 9 at 8:47 p.m., Robert G. Hernandez, 28, of Allen Street, New Britain, was driving a Honda Accord on Randolph Road with the passenger headlight out. Officers report they saw the butt of a handgun (Crossman CO2-style BB) on the floor behind the driver's seat of the car.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM — On June 8 at 10:22 p.m., Matthew J. Forline, 28, of Main Street, Durham, was involved in a car accident at South Main and Ward streets. Police say Forline's car rear ended another car.
