PD: Break-In Suspect Found Hiding in Clothes Dryer

Middletown Police say a Newington man with a long record of serious crimes knocked down the door of this ex-girlfriend's home to get inside.

 

A 35-year-old Newington man is in custody after say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment while she was home, scaring her so much she feared for her life.

On April 30, police responded to a disturbance at a home on Rose Circle in which the victim said her ex-boyfriend, Julio Velasquez of Seventh Street, Newington, kicked in her locked rear door and entered, the report says. The victim ran, police say, fearing for her life.

When police arrived they found Velasquez hiding in a clothes dryer. Upon exiting, the report says, he kept his hands in his pockets despite officers' commands to remove them, necessitating the need to forcibly handcuff him.

He was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and breach of peace.

A records check reveals Velasquez has an extensive criminal record, including assault, breach of peace, escape, risk of injury, failure to appear, possession of narcotics, probation violations, several burglary charges, larceny and criminal mischief.
