New Court Dates for Meriden and Durham Men Charged in Fatal Crash

The two face numerous charges when they appear in Middletown Superior Court next month.

The arraignments for two men charged with manslaughter in connection with a July accident that killed a Meriden man have been postponed to January.

The arraignment for Jedidiah B. Roesler, 23, of Meriden, is now scheduled for Jan. 18 and the arraignment for Stephen M. Tyrseck, 36, of Durham, is scheduled for Jan. 27.

Both arraignments were scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, but were postponed to next month. Court officials said they do not know why the arraignments, routine court appearances that typically entail a review of an accused’s case and bond amount, were rescheduled.

Roesler and Tyrseck remain free on bond.

The two men face numerous charges, including second-degree manslaughter and negligent homicide, in connection with a fatal two-car collision in Middletown on July 24 that killed Alexander Martinez of Meriden and injured three others.

According to police, both Roesler and Tyrseck, a firefighter with Middletown’s South Fire District, had blood alcohol levels well above the legal threshold. Roesler registered a BAC of .182 and Tyrseck .269 — more than three times the legal limit of .08.

Both turned themselves in to police earlier this month after learning that there were warrants for their arrests.
