Middletown Police Lt. Demoted, Suspended for 'Inappropriate Conduct'

Sgt. Christopher Lavoie is due back at work on May 27 as a patrol officer and was suspended for 30 days without pay.

A Middletown Police lieutenant was demoted in mid-April, according to the Hartford Courant, after an internal investigation that indicates only 'inappropriate conduct."

Officer Christopher Lavoie, 38, and the city signed an agreement April 16 in which Lavoie agreed to be demoted instead of being fired, and, the Courant is reporting, he is expected to be back at work on May 27 as a patrol officer and was suspended for 30 days without pay.

In January 2010, Sgt. Lavoie, a member of the department since 1998, was promoted, according to the Middletown Press, which also reports he has served as a narcotics K-9 handler, an undercover street crimes detective, and overseeing the street crimes unit, among other positions.

He has an associate’s degree and served in the Marine Corps for four years, the Press reports.
