Middletown Police Investigate Theft of Landscaping Equipment

Nearly $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen this week from a storage area at the Remington Rand building in Middletown.

Middletown Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect and a vehicle involved in the theft of landscaping equipment from the Remington Rand building earlier this week.

According to police nearly $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen from 180 Johnson Street on Monday, June 29. The discovery was made the next morning.

According to police, a video camera at the location shows a full size pick up truck pulling into the rear of the property shortly after 10:30 p.m and shows a heavy set white male exiting the driver’s seat wearing a tee-shirt and shorts.

A second suspect is seen in the video exiting the truck but police have been unable to provide a description.

The driver is seen walking in the direction of the gated storage before returning to the vehicle. A short time later, police say, the same vehicle is observed on another video surveillance system traveling along North Main Street with the ten foot trailer reported stolen in tow.

Among the equipment stolen include a Scag Zero Turn Tiger Cat, a Scag Walk Behind 48” mower, three Echo String Trimmers, and the Premier brand TL 142 trailer.

Police say a padlock secured to a chain securing the fenced in area was likely cut and discarded.

The pickup truck is described as having fog lights in the center of the front bumper, lights on the mirrors, a row of running lights across the top of the roof, and a single break light located at the rear of the cab.  It also has chrome tubular steps on the sides.

Police are alerting local landscaping equipment dealers to be on the lookout for the stolen equipment.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Middletown Police Department at 860-638-4000 or the Major Investigations Unit at 860-638-4140.
