Middletown Man Sentenced For Illegally Selling Firearms to a Convicted Felon

Christopher Dobosz will serve 18 months in federal prison.

A Middletown man will serve 18 months in federal prison for selling seven illegal weapons to a federal informant in New Haven.

After he gets out of prison, Christopher Dobosz, 30, will then have to serve three years of supervised release. Dobosz was sentenced Thursday in Hartford federal court and was ordered to serve the first six months of his supervised release in home confinement, according to a news release from the U.S. Justice Department.

On three occasions in August 2012, Dobosz met an individual working with law enforcement at a parking lot in New Haven and sold a total of seven firearms to that person in exchange for $5,300, officials said. One of the firearms had been reported stolen and one had an obliterated serial number.

Officials said Dobosz knew that the purchaser was a convicted felon who planned to re-sell the firearms.

Dobosz has been detained since his arrest on Sept. 26 of last year. He pleaded guilty on Feb. 15 to one count of illegally engaging in the business of dealing in firearms.

This matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Vanessa Richards.
