Middletown Man, 20, Dies in Mass. Turnpike Crash

The young man, a 2010 graduate of Xavier High School, lost control of his car speeding on the wet roadway early Saturday, hit a tree and died instantly.

A 20-year-old Middletown man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his car and hit a tree in Westfield, Mass., according to The Middletown Press.

Colter J. Abely died at the scene, according to MassLive.com. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation. The Massachusetts Turnpike roadway was wet at the time, state police said.

Abely's Facebook page indicates he graduated from in 2010. The Xavier Website says he was on the wrestling team. In 2010, he took fourth place in the LL State (Open Qualifying) at 189 pounds.

He was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris west on Route 90 and went off the shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle, according to the Boston Globe.
