Middletown Homicide Victim Buried as Police Search for Suspect

Diana Eichler's life was memorialized Tuesday in New Haven and her body laid to rest — still her family and friends await word on her killer.

The funeral June 26 for , the 30-year-old New Britain woman found dead June 16 in a wooded, remote area of Middletown, was a celebration of her life, according to a story in the Middletown Press.

The cause of death was found to be trauma to the head, the Press reported. A suspect has not been identified by police.

Hikers enjoying a trail leading to a bucolic waterfall just up from a 9-hole golf course made a grisly discovery after following a substance along the ground that appeared to be blood, according to Middletown Police. Eichler's body was found face down in the water under the bridge at Westfield Falls, just up the road from the just before 1 p.m.

It took police three days to identify her body, after an autopsy and fingerprint analysis. Her most marked characteristic was a rose tattoo on her rear shoulder with the name, "Melissa."

Her obituary at Legacy.com says she was born in New York and had a 5-year-old daughter who lived with Eichler's mother in New Haven.

The homicide investigation is still ongoing.

The Middletown Police Department is asking that anyone having contact or with Diana Eichler especially in the 48 hours prior to her body being found call the department at (860) 344-3200 with any information no matter how small.
