Middletown Police say a man known as "Dep," who is a convicted felon and has an extensive criminal history, broke into a College Street home and threatened a victim at knife point.

A Middletown Superior Court judge has set a $125,000 bail following the arraignment of the 42-year-old felon charged with a violent home invasion last week.

Dalton R. Barnes, also known as "Dep," according to Middletown Police, is facing serious charges including home invasion, strangulation, assault and robbery after he reportedly kicked down the door of a man's apartment, held him at knife point, and cut his throat over a $400 debt.

Barnes was arraigned on Tuesday and his initial bail, set at $150,000, was reduced.

On Nov. 2 at 8:29 p.m., a man walked into police headquarters on Main Street saying a man, Dalton R. Barnes, 42, of Grand Street, had kicked his door in and threatened him with a knife, punched him in the head and cut his arm with the knife, according to the report, at a home on College Street.

Barnes is due back in court on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m.
